About

Meet the artist

Peter M. Kelly

An off-kilter shadow, a striking juxtaposition, a bird in an unusual pose – my eye and my camera are drawn to the details that might not be apparent at first glance. Photography has helped me learn to see the world, to seek the rewards of slow looking.

My interest in image making started in middle school, but was set aside as education, then career, then family absorbed more time and energy. Gradually, and primarily while traveling on vacation, I started working on my photographic skills. The reset we all experienced with the onset of the pandemic allowed me to realize that photography is indeed a passion of mine, and I have worked to develop it from a hobby into a craft.

Several of my Houston-area nature photos have been selected for display on the permanent educational kiosks erected by the Houston Parks Board as part of its Bayou Greenways project. I have been commissioned to photograph the Austin Plein Air Painting Society, and the portraits of the justices of the First District Court of Appeals.
